This week’s final record (10/13 Update): 10-4.
WEEK FIVE PICKS (WINNERS IN BOLD), ENTICING GAMES WITH STARS:
(Note: I did pick the Colts in the Thursday night game. We apologize for the late posting.)
Last Week’s Record: 10-5.
Sunday (1:00 on CBS)-
***Jacksonville Jaguars (1-3) @ Tampa Bay Bucs (1-3)***
Cleveland Browns (1-3) @ Baltimore Ravens (1-3)
St. Louis Rams (2-2) @ Green Bay Packers (4-0)
Buffalo Bills (2-2) @ Tennessee Titans (1-2)
-You could easily make the argument that the Bills v. Titans game is the best of this grouping, and it should be interesting to see the Bills, after a tough loss to New York, visit the Titans and the clicking offense of Marcus Mariota. The Bills will be able to score points, and score them in a hurry, so although I don’t think one team is way better than the other, this match up tends to favor Buffalo’s physicality.
The best game in this grouping is actually between two 1-3 teams in the dreadful Buccaneers and the improving Jaguars. I like Doug Martin in this matchup, being able to run against the Jags and control the tempo behind Jameis Winston. Winston was AWFUL last week, but is good enough to bounce back. Plus, the average defense of Tampa should keep Jacksonville from really going off, even if Blake Bortles has a strong game targeting his improving receiving core.
Packers advance in a too-close for comfort game against St. Louis, who always plays teams tough, and Baltimore trashes the Browns.
Sunday (1:00 on FOX)-
***New Orleans Saints (1-3) @ Philadelphia Eagles (1-3)***
***Seattle Seahawks (2-2) @ Cincinnati Bengals (4-0)***
Chicago Bears (1-3) @ Kansas City Chiefs (1-3)
Washington Redskins (2-2) @ Atlanta Falcons (4-0)
-It’ll be a hell of a game in Philadelphia between Drew Brees and the Saints, fresh off their first win, against the Eagles, the Chip Kelly led disappointment this season. We’ll see if Brees is able to continue his success against the solid defense of Philly. Philly should be able to score in this game, but you never know with them. I like desperation Brees.
The Seahawks will lose in Cincinnati in a game between two great teams, their offense is just not prepared for Cincinnati, a team that’s been lights out.
I like the Chiefs with a win, they’re better than their record, losing to the undefeated Broncos, Bengals, and Packers.
Falcons blow out Washington, I love Atlanta this season.
Sunday (4:00 on FOX/CBS)-
FOX- ***Arizona Cardinals (3-1) @ Detroit Lions (0-4)***
CBS- New England Patriots (3-0) @ Dallas Cowboys (2-2)
Denver Broncos (4-0) @ Oakland Raiders (2-2)
-The best game is FOX’s game of the week, as Arizona attempts to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss against St. Louis against a Lions team desperate for a win. Both of these teams were playoff teams last year, but the record of the Lions would not describe that. Lions are just unlucky and inconsistent, and I don’t expect their offense to suddenly come alive against Arizona, I like the Cardinals.
Dallas will score a little on New England, but New England could hang 45-50 on this team. Patriots!
Denver beats Oakland in a close game, but David Carr’s growth is not enough to handle Denver’s defense.
Sunday (8:30 on NBC)-
San Francisco 49ers (1-3) @ New York Giants (2-2)
-The Giants are rolling, the Niners are not. Giants could easily be 4-0.
Monday (8:30 on ESPN)-
***Pittsburgh Steelers (2-2) @ San Diego Chargers (2-2)***
-The Steelers lost Vick’s first start last week, but still played well enough to win. The offensive weapons will be enough to score, but the Chargers are ready to roll, their offense is a top 5-6 in the league, and against the porous Steelers defense, the Chargers will score.
